still, I went home with my feet wet

So the rest of the day...(remind me to write down better and clearer blog entries...I realized that I use too much psych lingo here!)

Finished lots of ENGLRES stuff with Minseun (we're so ahead in the class!). Theories of Personality was interesting and a little tense because of the discussion about our final requirements. Let's just say that in the end, the requirement I'm aiming for is one for the brave and/or crazy. Paper writing ahoy!

Experimental Psych was well, the usual lecture. I really need to pay attention in that class. I got a text after that household was cancelled. I read up to the text that household was still on, but well, not many people came because of the weather. Thank God that I didn't have time to send a message to everyone about the first text.

Household was something I needed especially after the crazy events of the week. Thanks to everyone for the insights and things we all needed to learn.

Next problem: getting home. After listening to Ate Carmel's and Karl's tales of the horror that was Makati in a flood, Clar and I figured our only chance was the LRT-MRT route. Nyahh. At least the majority of the rush hour crowd was gone. Still, Ayala station was difficult to get out from. We also saw Razen, Kitkat and Mea on the way home. Bonding time. Then there was the next trouble of catching the bus home. That was when I got my feet wet with the water from some unmentionable location.

Things I learned today:

1. Staying in school late may be good for you

2. Eating dinner on a bus is not always a good idea

3. Leather shoes and rain do not mix.

praise God, I can eat again!

Yesss...after the misery that was yesterday, I can finally eat at least a bowl of cereal. Never mind if my cold is still there (I think it comes with the weather)

Am at the tambayan...petiks time with Issa, talking with Niki, Tino and Dan when they chance to be here. All this is happening while I'm waiting for Minseun and my other friends to turn up. Household later, HLT rin bukas, GK mtg tomorrow...lots to do over the weekend.

I sometimes wonder if I'm putting in less time in my studies. But when I think about it, I realize I do a lot of reading and advanced work, I listen in class (best as I can, short attention span withstanding), I type up my reports and papers early...so that's why I have a lot of time for my service and extracurriculars. I hope I can keep this up next term when I start doing my scholarship duties. I hope I can keep this up in third term when I have mostly major and science classes to deal with. However, I think that serving in campus based gives me a great motivation to keep my grades up and my life in order.

...sheesh, what does a girl have to do??

Today was fun, but not funny. I had to drag myself to school today, despite the protestations of my digestive system. Spent a good deal of time at the tambayan, and I wasn't as hyperactive as I normally am. Since I wasn't exactly well, I could barely pay attention in chem class (but amazingly, I got the answers right!) INTFILO wasn't exactly intellectually stimulating, and I was just glad to get out of class.

I got my expsych midterm grades in the email. It's *good* to know that I'm doing comparatively well. What's not good is my one demerit (for dress code...WTH?!) and the fact that I have only comparatively few shots (recitation, a final exercise, and a last written test) to get at least a 3.0 by the end of the term. Why oh why did I only get this file AFTER my second oral exam?!?!

At least there's household tomorrow. At least I have the morning free (hopefully to stop simmering and figure out a plan of action...) I may as well start reading in advance for the next few topics...

*headdesk*...

...less lecture, more application

Yes, buhay petiks. With free cuts and experiments to deal with, I have a lot of spare time on my hands. Morning was mostly occupied with lab psych (thanks to AJ and Kuya Arven for helping out!) However, I got a little bored and restless during the experiment, so I found it a relief when I was finally allowed to leave the area of the LAPIS.

Lunch was as always, fun (yes, that's what happens when I hang out at the tambayan again!) Then it was off to THEOPER class again before free cut for expsych lec.

A lot happened during the free cut: tambay, impromptu merienda, discovering some interesting surprises, the wind blowing way too hard, and best of all...worship! Sa hangin, sa gitna ng Yuchengco!!

Somehow the day turned up so much nicer, now that I was OUT of the classroom!

sabaw na araw plus survey

Today: chem lab bugaboos with the Bunsen burner (napatakan ng HCl...waahhh!). A bit of tambay time today with the YFCs. Chem lec class that got interrupted by protesters. Enrollment (schedule conflicts ahoy!) INTFILO review and test. And of course, 6pm worship again!

Not much of a day, but I did have a few laughs and reasons to smile.

...who wants to get cheeseburgers?

Sounds like a fairly good idea now.

Yesterday: I slept in till it was time to wake up for lunch (spaghetti again). I got really bored after lunch, so I called up Bikai and eventually arranged to meet up with her in the mall for some catching up. Clar came along, and we just swapped stories while eating doughnuts/drinking coffee. Turns out that gossip/rumors do get as far as Diliman. It's fun to hear of old friends and what they're doing now in UP and Ateneo. It's a bit embarrassing to realize that there IS some truth behind the AC jokes. And it's great to have a Pol-Sci student friend who can give her own take as to the deal behind convoluted student elections.

Went to mass also yesterday, and spent time hanging out with my cousins Jio and Nina.

Today: Stay-at-home-in-pajamas day. Time to empty the fridge of leftovers. Maybe even upload some of the videos to multiply (but yikes, the connection at home is so slow). Or write a few stories. Finish reading "Pygmalion". Bond with my siblings. If the weather is OK, go to Glorietta to get stuff done, buy more books, or cut my hair. Basically do nothing while waiting and praying for tomorrow to go just right.

If anyone is NOT doing anything tomorrow, and we don't get sent home because of potential political turmoil, the cheeseburger offer still stands. :)

YFC GA

Before I begin my story, just two things: Firstly, ANG ASTIG NI GOD! He brought everything to dimensions we never expected.

Secondly, I'd like to honor everyone who served throughout this week and especially today, the YFCs and non-YFCs who participated in the GA, my fellow execom members, and my ates and kuyas for coming together for the 4 F's: friendship, freedom, fun, and faith.

So after the incredible and exhausting recruitment week, the day arrived for the GA. Call time was at noon for the execom. Well, I was around as early as 10:30 for schoolwork. After a huge lunch, I hung out at the tambayan waiting for a worship/meeting to begin. Then Kuya Niki sent me on an errand for GK. I got back in time to go over things for the GA with Kuya Tino, Mira, Ate Oche, and Dan. After slipping out with Pao, Dan, Kat D, and Issa for some ice cream, we headed for SJ 106.

2:30---people starting to trickle in. Not sure whether to begin, but waited a bit.

At around 2:45, we had to get more chairs. We began our teaching of songs and the icebreakers at around 3. By this time, the room was pretty full. Kudos to Dan and Pao for keeping the pace going and for being great emcees. Barkadahan game was hilarious (and yes, I know that my hair isn't layered--it's buhaghag!) Surprise today: Kuya Marco showed up. So did Nelly. Wish my other friends had been there though.

Dave led the worship today. Wow. That's all I can say. I love the song "Faithful". And seeing everyone singing along to "The Time Has Come" and "Adonai".

Kuya Wilmond's talk about YFC DLSU and its legacy was amusing, and of course inspiring. And I could relate to Ate Tuesday's sharing.

After the talk, we had another game (Bahay Baboy Bagyo) before watching two AVPs. I liked the one Mira created. After closing prayer, we went off to the tambayan for a late merienda and bonding. Talked to a LOT of people and generally hung out before having to go home because of impending traffic.

God was more than amazing today. I'm kind of lost for words.

Thursday at the Miguel walk

Stayed for a time with Clar, AJ, Dan, Niki, Teddy, and Rodrigo at the YFC recruitment booth at the Miguel walk. Video taken by Dan.

YFC booth and after 6pm tambayan

I brought the camera to school for my psych work, and wound up with these pictures also, some of them courtesy of Dan and Rodrigo

This is the blog for the book "The Good Girl Revolution" by Wendy Shalit. This site discusses the book (which advocates chastity and a different kind of feminism for teenage girls), as well as related issues to "clean living" in this day and age. :)

mas matigas ang ulo ko kaysa sa lata ng Coke

Well, that was one of the many things I learned today.

1. If you want people to go to school at 7:30, tell them you want them around at 6am.

2. Murphy's Law (if anything will go bad, it will) is true even for recruitment week. However, GOD'S LOVE wins out over all.

3. Help comes in God's time.

4. Never be afraid to be shameless when the situation calls for it

5. Loving Correction is the word for the day.

6. Don't put too much water when rehydrating copper chloride samples.

7. Aluminum wire has a life of its own.

8. Be familiar with your friends' laptops

9. Symbol shock is something that can be overcome even for a Math-phobic student

10. If you play your cards right, you can get out of INTFILO early, or not have it at all.

11. Praise music is a way to pass the day cleanly.

12. Supporting your brothers and sisters runs both ways. And prayer is essential. :) :)

13. Get it straight as to who is in charge of booth set up.

14. Coke cans are never completely empty.

Thanks to all my teachers and friends who taught me these things.

abandon all I am to have You capture me again...

If a year ago I had been given a glimpse of who I am now, I might have burst out laughing.

I think I know why when I tell stories nowadays, it seems as if life has been split into several parts: my childhood, the first part of high school, then junior year up to some part of last school year, then life as I know it now.

What was I last year? Eighteen and feeling on top of the world. Egotistic. Too cocky and too blind to see what I needed. Too confident in myself. Too humanistic. Still, I remember saying in TREDONE class that I wanted to see God in the everyday. I think I was too caught up in psychology and all kinds of stuff to see properly.

Then God hit me with a door (literally).

It took some time to get the blinders off. Still, even now I am learning so much. It's as if I got some part of my child-like self back. And I feel so secure, so loved. It's an odd feeling, but it's the best. Maybe it's because God has helped me redefine what I consider as "family". Or it's because I allowed myself to finally begin to surrender.

Maybe I'm not going to be the quirky bohemian, Palanca-award winning writer, raging activist, Dean's Lister that I was. But I'd rather be a secure person. I'd rather be happy. I'd rather be a missionary. I'd rather be a sister and a daughter. I'd rather be a follower, that is a follower of God.

May God be praised. God's evening to you all!

ang Sabado ay masyadong tahimik!!!

So I deliberately spaced out my schedule so that I could stay at home today and finish schoolwork.

Actual Yield of schoolwork: Chem problem set (yes, the same one that made me frazzled on Wednesday), chem lec review, oral exam presentation for expsych, half a project proposal, half a philosophy review.

Theoretical Yield of schoolwork: chem problem set, chem lec review, oral exam presentation, project proposal, philosophy review, theories of personality review, englstress bibliography revision.

Okay, so I didn't get everything done. When I think about it, I actually get more work done on Wednesday mornings, or while trying to keep up with the conversation at school. I think I get more distracted here at home than at the tambayan! Ngyek.

hindi lumindol...at buhay pa tayong lahat!

Amazing day...

So I overslept. Yeah, I was supposed...supposed to wake up to study, but I didn't. I woke up in time to run a few errands, then go off to AC to support my sis' YFC meeting at AC. Galing talaga. Salamat kay Ken at kay Ate Carla sa tulong. I got to catch up with many of my old friends (mga dating alaga!) and I was surprised by many of the stories I heard. I'm proud of how many of them have grown up. I am also awed, simply awed at how God is seemingly pulling many of the brightest, most promising Assumptionistas to serve in high school based.

I also got to catch up with Lysa and Cookie today. And by the way Trisha...we really should hang out with Cookie at least one more time before she goes back to Boston.

Astig talaga. God's evening everyone.

for fun lang....

leave your name in a comment. once you do that, this is what i'll do....

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you which song or movie you remind me of.
3. I'll pick a kind of beverage to share with you.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
(if possible. if not, I'll say something that only makes sense to me.)
5. I'll tell you my first memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wondered about you.
8. If you play, you MUST post this on your blog.

galing ni GOD today

The weather was a good indicator. Maaliwalas. Despite the chaos that was this morning's traffic scenario, there was a blessing in the fact that it didn't rain. Though of course, I still am worried about the people who had to deal with that fire...

Lab experiment for psych: good to go. Praise God!

Grades for my major classes seem to be okay. Actually, I'm not as grade conscious as I was before. Secure na ako. Strangely, I was calm despite a *minor* crisis in englstress.

Two of the greatest blessings today: first was seeing Alexa and Martha after all this time! I haven't seen Alexa since she left for Milan, and Martha since her HS graduation. I wish though I had some more time to talk to them.

Second greatest blessing was the weekly household. Yep, galing ng topic ngayon. Kudos to Kuya Tino, Dan, and Karl for handling things very well today. Missed Ate Ynah, Gayle, Dave, and a lot of other people.

Next week: YFC recruitment! And the GA on July 25!!! Punta kayo!!!

Mental images for my week

If only I had a camera...

I would have wanted to take pictures of the spray that would come from the rooftops at the height of the storm. I would have definitely taken a picture of the Central Plaza today at about 2:30 pm. In the edge of the confusion, I saw four umbrellas huddled at the tambayan. I added in mine for a fifth. I would have videotaped our "Mafia" games.

If only I could draw...well, let's just say that I wouldn't have been the only person who ended up with several chibis today. Thanks to Rodrigo, Dan and Ate Issa for patiently dealing with my chem-induced nervous breakdown.

If only I had better mathematical ability, I wouldn't have had said nervous breakdown.

Though thank God I had my health, great friends, a good umbrella, and a reasonable schedule.

Halos buo na ang linggo, kulang na lang ay matapos na ang expsych project proposal, englstress, at household.

got this from Carmel.

Name 10 people of the opposite sex you can think of right off the top of your head. Don't read the questions underneath until you write the names of all 10 people. This is a lot funnier if you actually randomly list the names first. NO CHEATING

driven to distraction

Sheesh, can't I get anything right nowadays?

I sure could use a case of dissociative amnesia, at least a selective case wherein I'll forget some of my problems of the last 24 hours. I know I shouldn't be so temperamental (my parents, my sister and Kuya Niki have been telling me that for days). I know I should seriously get my act together (have midterms tomorrow, and I still am buzzing about school reading on poetry therapy). I know I should keep things in perspective and my reactions under control (should stop throwing things at people)

I just keep trying to tell myself to let go and let God. But it's so, so hard to do sometimes.

I'm emo today. And nothing in my psychology studies can help me.

Sunday, July 13, 2008
